The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline offers 24/7 call, text and chat (through 988lifeline.org) access to trained crisis counselors who can help adults experiencing suicidal, substance use, and/or mental health crises, or any other kind of emotional distress.

People can also call, text or chat 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. 988 crisis counselors will assist in de-escalating crises and linking individuals to ongoing services as needed.

Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Teams (MCORT) are a special service of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. MCORTs will respond to non-life-threatening mental health, substance use or suicidal crises in the community. Referrals to MCORT may be made by 988 crisis counselors following an assessment of the individual in crisis.

The program is designed to provide services statewide, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. MCORTs include a two-person team (a trained peer support specialist and a bachelor's level mental health professional), with a master's level professional providing clinical backup from a remote location. MCORTs exist as an additional level of support and helps to expand the impact of 988 and access to crisis services.
