Our vision is a world where all persons experiencing mental health challenges are able to live happy, healthy, satisfying lives.
The county where Bridgeway was founded more than 50 years ago is experiencing a heightened need for mental health care and addiction treatment that is unmet.
In fact, Union County ranks 15th among 21 counties in the state for access to mental health and substance use treatment. This inadequacy affects young people, adults, older adults, and families. It is taking a marked toll on the population, wreaking havoc on community life, as families struggle to find help in an environment where wait times for an initial assessment can be weeks to months long. Many people often end up in the Emergency Room or involved with law enforcement unnecessarily. This is unacceptable.
Local needs assessments report that those who belong to the Black, Hispanic, and LGBTQ communities can be profoundly affected in many ways when the need for mental health care goes unanswered. Union County’s Community Health Needs Assessment, conducted in 2022, identified mental illness as the top health issue or concern. Please see Appendix for “Needs Assessment Data for Union County.”
