This year’s theme, “Black Resistance”, recognizes African Americans’ resistance to historic oppression in pursuit of self-determination and equality.
Black History Month at Bridgeway
Black History Month 2023 celebrates the theme of resistance as it relates to all forms of oppression. This focus on resilience has informed the way many have coalesced around all social justice issues especially the one related to the work and focus of Bridgeway. Stigma and access to mental health services continue to be the top reasons that Black and Brown communities don’t receive mental health care. Bridgeway is dedicated to eradicating these barriers.
Bridgeway Behavioral Health Services was founded on a strong desire to fight disparity and injustice alongside people living with mental health conditions. We are dedicated to nurturing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within our organization among the staff and the people we serve. We embrace and celebrate the talents and abilities of people of all races, ethnicities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, gender identifications, incomes, marital statuses, ages, geographic locations, philosophies, and armed services identifications.
Bridgeway supports a diverse group of clients in 10 counties. We are proud to have our staff and Board of Trustees reflect the demographics of the people that we serve, and we look to further recruit people who are empowered to embrace this theme and continue to teach resilience through anti-stigma and culturally informed practices. Our commitment is to have better representation at all levels of management.
The purpose of diversity is to ensure that all stakeholders are well informed in developing not only services that meet the needs of diverse populations but also supporting a diverse workforce.
Bridgeway is committed to consistently providing an atmosphere of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging by elevating the voices of African Americans when unique perspectives are offered. An example of how we’ve done this is by ensuring that Bridgeway honored Juneteenth as a day of recognition for every employee.
